Two Sisters Beach: everything you need to know and how to get there

Two Sisters Beach: everything you need to know and how to get there

One of the most beautiful and iconic images of the Conero Riviera is undoubtedly that of Spiaggia delle Due Sorelle (Two Sisters Beach). With its distinctive white sea stacks, crystal-clear sea and the high cliffs that surround it, it is an unmissable stop for anyone spending a holiday on the Riviera.

What makes it even more special is the way you get there: it’s accessible only by sea, a feature that has helped to preserve its charm over the years.

If you’re planning a day out exploring the Conero Riviera, here’s everything you need to know to visit one of its most iconic beaches.

Why is it called Two Sisters Beach?

The name derives from the two white rock stacks situated just a few metres from the shore. Their shape, when viewed from the sea, has given rise to various interpretations: according to tradition, they resemble two sisters standing side by side, whilst others see the silhouette of two nuns deep in prayer.

Whatever the origin of the name, these two rocks have become the symbol of the Conero Riviera and one of the most photographed views in the Marche region.

The Two Sisters Beach

The beach consists of fine gravel and white pebbles smoothed by the sea, and is surrounded by the high cliffs of Monte Conero, which plunge straight into the Adriatic. The water is particularly clear and, on calm days, takes on shades ranging from turquoise to deep blue.

You won’t find any beach clubs, restaurants or kiosks here: it’s a public beach that retains its natural, unspoilt setting. This is precisely why it’s a favourite destination for those who love the sea in its most authentic form, enjoy snorkelling or simply want to spend a few hours away from the busier beaches.

How to get to Two Sisters Beach

Two Sisters Beach can only be reached by sea: it is not possible to get there by car or via footpaths, as the land access routes are closed.

If you’re staying at Camping Village Internazionale, you can take advantage of the ferry that departs from San Michele Beach. From the campsite, the beach can be reached via a steep, scenic path with steps, about 200 metres long, which leads directly to the shore. From here, the crossing to the Two Sisters Beach takes just a few minutes and offers a splendid view of the Conero coastline. Before setting off, we recommend checking the days, timetables and availability of the service, especially during peak periods.

Alternatively, you can reach the beach via ferries departing from the port of Numana or, if you love the sea and adventure, by kayak, SUP or private boat, always taking into account weather and sea conditions and adhering to navigation regulations.

What to bring

As the Two Sisters Beach is a public beach with no facilities, it’s important to plan ahead before you set off. Bring plenty of water, something to eat, sun cream and, if you plan to stay for several hours, a beach umbrella too, as there are no shaded areas. Water shoes can make walking on the pebbles more comfortable, whilst a mask and snorkel are ideal for exploring the seabed and admiring the crystal-clear water. At the end of the day, remember to take all your rubbish with you, helping to preserve this beautiful corner of the Conero Riviera.
